I agree with most of your analysis on Dealer.com and certainly they push their in-house SEO heavily. I have a clients with Dealer.com and I've always found them to be helpful and very easy to contact and work with. I have no trouble getting code or analytics added. While it does take a lot of work, you can accomplish a high level of SEO with Dealer.com sites.

Good question. To save space and not recreate the wheel, a good read on why you want to add the | link rel="canonical" | tag in your website can be found at Google Webmaster; <a href="http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html" rel="nofollow">Specify Your Canonical</a>. Sorry it took so long to reply - flew under the radar.

I just wanted to say I like the article. I have been working with a dealer.com site all day, and have to ask, WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH CANONICAL URL? Every site gets indexed as www.domain.com/index.html and I just confused on why they would do that. Have you come across any solutions?
